The Museum is the gateway to the historical sites of Polička. Here, we organise guided tours to all important landmarks in Polička – Medieval Fortifications, Gallery within the baroque Town Hall and Birth Apartment of Bohuslav Martinů. In addition to attractive permanent exhibitions, the Museum offers a variety of short-term exhibitions and cultural events. It is also a seat of the Bohuslav Martinů Centre; its exhibition ‘The Colourful World of Bohuslav Martinů’ will lead you through the life story of one of the most eminent Czech composers, whose life was entwined with Polička since his birth.

Museum’s exhibitions are accessible to individuals as well as groups during the opening hours.

The exhibitions and displays are primarily presented in Czech, with translations available throughout in English, German, and French.

Larger groups are advised to book their visits. It is possible to accommodate your visit outside of the advertised opening times.

Polička is a beautiful and historic town. The proof of its longevity lies not only in its eminent architectonic buildings and monuments but also in the ethnographic and historical collections of the Museum.

The History of Polička introduces the history of the town from its founding by the king Ottokar II of Bohemia up to the year 1945. The dexterity of glass makers and the brittle beauty of their creations can be admired in Glassmaking in the Horácko Region.

Polička is also inseparably linked to the life story of Bohuslav Martinů, one of the most important Czech composers of the 20th century. His legacy is maintained by the Bohuslav Martinů Centre. The Classroom of Bohuslav Martinů is set in the period of the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, when young Bohuslav started to attend school.

The life story of the composer is told in The Colourful World of Bohuslav Martinů, through attractive visuals, original personal objects and documents from the personal effects of the Martinů family. Join Bohuslav Martinů on a journey through time, from Polička to 1930s Paris, from Paris to New York and then, after the end of the second World War, back over the ocean to Italy and Switzerland.

The museum also serves as a gateway to guided tours of the Gallery (situated in the baroque Town Hall), Medieval Fortifications or the Birth Apartment of Bohuslav Martinů (located in the tower of St. James’ Church). The Museum organises various short-term exhibitions which are due to their playfulness and interactive elements interesting for families, yet offer captivating insight for the more discerning visitors.
